“Hands are an absolute symbol of creation. In the Book of Genesis, God (first a sculptor, and of course, an abstract one because the form of man did not exist) raises the human form from the dampened clay. This is the unique creative act. What comes after is multiplication.”

Eduardo Chillida

Hello and welcome to my site. Inside, you will find images of my works from over the past ten years. Along with these images, I have provided explanations for a variety of the series of sculptures I have undertaken. With such a wide spanning collection of work highlighted, it is perhaps easiest to present my interests in regards to sculpture in general terms. A good portion of my works can be classified as ‘guardian’ images of one type or another, and include both the Sentinel and Maiastra series respectively. These two groups of works draw their inspirations from different sources, but are specifically concerned with the historical use of stone sculpture as a means of expressing man’s need for emblems of protection.

The second principle area of investigation for my art, has been the use of abstract sculpture as a medium through which to explore questions concerning the nature of our emotions, as well as our perceptions of the world. Falling under this general description are both my earliest (Fundamental Principle) and most recent (Totem) series of works.

Over the years of work, I have developed a preference to stone as my medium of choice. In regards to stone’s historical associations with sculpture, there could be no material better suited to contemporary works which wish to hearken back to ancient sculptural traditions. On a personal level, I have become inexorably attached to the process of working with this most intractable of materials. Whether the work is carried out by hand or with the help of power tools, there is simply no fast way to carve stone. In a time when we as a society are besotted with the idea of efficiency and speed without clear purpose, it is reassuring to take one’s time in the creation of enduring statements.
